How to maintain the CD’s and DVD’s

Do not let sunlight, moisture & excessive heat fall on your CD directly, it can harm the sectors & tracks which are used for recording.

Don't write on the disc with normal 'Sharpie' or permanent markers.  The acid in the ink will badly damage the disc. If you must write on the disc use an acid-free pigment based marker - or better yet, don't write on your discs at all.

Don't stack your discs on top of each other without cases - they will get scratched.

Make sure whenever you pick a CD keep your fingers away from the shiny part of the disk and the index finger should be in the centre of the disk.

Avoid placing heavy objects on the disk and when not in use remember to keep the disk in the CD case which further removes the possibility of loose handling.

Use a soft and dry fibre cloth for cleaning the surface of the disk.

Do not use any kind of organic solvents for cleaning like., acetone, detergents or cleaners. Always use distilled water for cleaning your disk, Tap water is also not recommended.

Don’t clean the disk in a circular fashion. It can develop scratches on your disk.

Avoid wiping the disc with paper towels or tissues - these can scratch.  Use a clean microfiber or 100% soft cotton cloth instead.

Always wipe the cloth in a straight line, starting from the center and moving outwards to the edge.
